Health & Wellbeing
At Southdale, we recognise that positive health and wellbeing are at the heart of successful learning. We are committed to nurturing confident, resilient and happy children who feel safe, valued and supported in school.
Children develop their knowledge, understanding and skills across a range of Health and Wellbeing experiences, including:
- Mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing
- Planning for choices and changes
- Food and Health
- Substance Misuse
- Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP)
- Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport
Learning in these areas is delivered in a sensitive and age-appropriate way, taking account of children's stage of development. We encourage parents and carers to speak with school staff if they have any questions about the content or delivery of this curriculum area.
As a trauma-sensitive school, we place a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing and positive relationships. We strive to create a nurturing environment where every child feels respected, included and ready to learn.
Every term, children reflect on their wellbeing through the eight wellbeing indicators. Regular learner conversations and discussions with a trusted adult help children to develop self-awareness, self-regulation and positive relationships. Our assemblies also explore a wide range of wellbeing themes, equipping children with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive both in and beyond school.
